Class Description:
The Zhen Xian Bao, or Chinese Thread Book, is a multilayered book of pockets, boxes, and opportunities for expansion and embellishment. These small treasures have been made for hundreds of years in Central and Southwestern China. They were stored in the pockets of Chinese women and held all kinds of small objects such as snippets of thread, embroidery patterns, small tools, all kinds of bits. They can be used today in many ways to store small treasures, sayings, poems, story bits, whatever you choose, or simply as a work of art on its own. If you would like more information about the history and possibilities, you may wish to view this short video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_zpEmHM878. This class is an introduction to one method of building a Zhen Xian Bao, based on the books of Ruth Smith.
