Intro to Fundamentals of Multi-Piece Pop-Ups

Class Description:
What is a Pop-up and what is not? How far can we stretch the definition? What are the basic principles and how can we use, abuse and play with them to create highly personal work? Pop-Ups naturally divide into either one page or multi-page constructions.

The course will ask these and other open-ended questions, so that you thoroughly learn the fundamentals of multi-piece pop-ups and thoroughly learn how to manipulate and combine them, similar to learning how to use a set of notes in a musical scale to create many different harmonies and dissonances. Making pop-ups is a fun, intuitive and quick process, based on simple measuring techniques.

Paul has taught pop-ups to students of Design and groups of makers on many occasions. He has written ‘Cut and Fold Techniques for Pop-up Designs’ (Amazon rating: 4.5) and exhibited his pop-up artwork at the ‘World Pop-up Art’ exhibition which toured South Korea (2013- 14).
