"…a whiff of perfume, or even the slightest odor can create an entire environment in the world of the imagination." (Gaston Bachelard in The Poetics of Space) Imagination recreates memory and for each of us, the collection of our experiences recreates the work of art. We respond to art both intellectually and emotionally. When the interplay between these two elements is harmonious and balanced, the experience can be profound. It is that balance that I am searching for as I conceptualize and create my art work.

Judith Christensen is a writer and book artist whose work has been widely exhibited and is included in both public and private collections. Her book works include both traditional structures as well as large, sculptural pieces. She teaches children and adults and develops curriculum that integrates book arts with the study of literacy and other academic subjects. As an artist-in-residence, she has taught special-needs populations, including non-native speakers and the deaf and hard-of-hearing.
