Three-dimensional Artists’ Books allow me to express both personal and universal life experience in a form of perceptual literature that invites the reader to trace the narrative thread interactively. I give the past a new life using unconventional structures, to evoke mental image of memory. Incorporating found objects, unusual materials or symbols to convey meaning is for me a challenging and exciting endeavor.
Elaine Antoniuk received her education at the University of Alberta, a diploma in the History of Decorative Arts in London, England and studied Book Art at Mesa College in San Diego. She has been creating and exhibiting artists’ books for the past thirteen years. The use of bamboo, screens and banners reflect an eastern influence in her three dimensional art. These structures become containers for memory, both personal and universal. She has also used letterpress printing and polymer plates in her creations. Her books have been shown in California, Massachusetts, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Ireland and Canada.
